      Ace The Bat Hound

      Ace The Bat Hound

      Review by JoshB

I'm going to start by saying that 1. I am not a big DC comics fan and 2. I was never a He-Man fan. So logically, the combination of the two is something that I should not like. But Funko has pulled off an interesting re-imagining of the DC universe with their Primal Age line, and it's done so well that you can't help but like it, even just a little. Sure, some characters are more successful than others, but when you get them all together, and throw in a playset and battle animals, the whole thing is an 80s kid's dream come true.

You can get the entire DC Primal Age line at Amazon.com

Like in MOTU, the hero characters had savage beasts to ride into battle on. These animals were simple, non-articulated figures with saddles for characters to ride on. Funko continues this concept in the Savage World: Primal Age. Each battle animal comes in a large window box.

Ace is an unmoving plastic beast, with removable headgear and saddle. It's a pretty good tribute to the vintage Battle Cat, in that it doesn't do anything.

Batman can ride him, awkwardly. The cape gets in the way and you have to put the figures legs in an unnatural pose to get him to stay on.

There's an obvious seam line down the middle of the figure, but it's hidden by the armor mostly. It's a fine addition to the line, and on-brand in it's tribute to 80s barbarian toy lines, but I do wish it had some articulation.

Thanks again to Funko for the review sample.
